The arms are those of Rochfort, possibly for James Rochfort of Laragh, Co. Kildare, born 1704. James was a descendant of an ancient family who were among the first settlers in Ireland. James was the first son and representative of his father, also James, by his second wife. His ancestors were Sir Richard de Rochfort, Lord of Crom and Adare, 1243; Sir Maurice Rochfort, Lord Justice of Ireland, 1302; Sir William Rochfort, Lord of the Manor of Kill, Co. Kildare, who was summoned as a baron to the parliament held at Dublin, 1339; John Rochfort seated at Kilbride, Co. Meath, 1415; his son Robert Rochfort of Kilbride, was James Rochfort's grandfather (See Burke's General Armory, p. 864)
