Circular in form, the two parts once hinged together, the cover adorned with a repoussé appliqué riveted in place depicting Fufluns (Dionysos) between Ariadne and a satyr, the youthful god standing at the center, his right leg bent, leaning into his left hip, his left arm akimbo, his hair tied in a fillet, a sash across his chest, a mantle across his legs and over his left shoulder, his right arm embracing Ariadne to the left, who caresses his right shoulder with her right hand, depicted nude but for a mantle around her legs, facing him with her left leg extended, her right knee bent, her hair bound in a headcloth knotted at the nape of her neck, the satyr to the right depicted nude, his right knee bent, leaning back with his left hand on a rocky outcrop, a rhyton in his raised right hand, a dog behind him
