Colima, Protoclassique, env. 100 avant-250 après J.C.
Grande statuette en terre cuite entièrement recouverte d'un bel engobe brun rouge représentant un guerrier à la fière allure assis les genoux vers l'extérieur, la main gauche placée sur la cuisse et la droite relevée vers le haut et refermée comme pour tenir un objet, probablement à l'origine une lance ou un matériau périssable, au visage distingué par une bouche souriante, des yeux plissés et des oreilles percées, portant un pagne à rabat et une cape de protection recouvrant une des épaules, et orné d'un collier à pendentifs de coquillage, de scarifications sur les épaules et d'un couvre-chef avec des lanières et une collerette.

COLIMA WARRIOR
PROTOCLASSIC, CA. 100 B.C.-A.D. 250
The tall and striking soldier seated with knees to the sides, the left hand placed on the thigh and the right hand held upward and cupped to hold an implement, probably a lance of perishable material, distinguished by the smiling expression with puckered eyes and pierced ears, wearing a scoop loincloth and protective cape draped across one shoulder, adorned with a necklace of shell pendants, shoulder scarification and headdress with straps and back flange, painted overall in rich reddish-brown.
Such Colima figures may represent competitors in the battlefield, legendary ancestral warriors, or shamans protecting the dead on the journey to the Underworld.
