Pissarro visited Finchingfield in June 1905, staying with Mrs Chapman at Town Hall Farm. He produced six canvasses during the stay and in a letter to Esther Pissarro, dated 13 June wrote, 'I have good weather on the whole I have nearly finished my 3 canvasses ... J'ai eu une bonne séance j'ai pu engrassier mon ciel; (undated) Beau temps ce matin, séance de soleil; (undated) I have finish my temps gris (of course!) but I hope to be able to complete the 2 sunny ones. (see A. Thorold, op.cit, p. 12).
