ANGADA RAGA OR KAILASI RAGINI
Attributed to Bhagvan, Kulu, circa 1790-1800
From a Ragamala, gouache heightened with gold and silver on paper, the prince arriving on foot at a pavilion where a lady comes out to greet him, black margin, dark green leaf with white rules, black and red Sanskrit inscription on reverse, laid down on thin paper, very slight retouching

Inscribed above Kailasi Ragini, but similar in iconography to Agada Raga, son of Sri Raga.

Archer's attribution to Bhagvan is made particularly on the basis of the similariy of the figures to those of three Madhu Malati series, two of which are signed by the artist (W.G. Archer, Indian Painting from the Punjab Hills, London, 1973, Kulu nos.37 and 39, vol.1, pp.339-40; vol.2, p.256).
