Each enamelled at the centre with the arms of Yorke impaling Cocks, below a puce cell-pattern band in the well and floral clusters at the border interrupted at the top by the crest, the rim with gilt linked floral motifs, minor rim chips, one with glaze chips on underside

For the arms, see D. S. Howard, Chinese Armorial Porcelain, London, 1974, p.230. This service was made for Philip Yorke, 1st Earl of Hardwicke, who became Lord Chancellor in 1737. These dishes, and those in the following two lots, are from the Estate of the daughter of the 9th Earl of Hardwicke and have been in the family since their manufacture.
