Each with square-section stem on rising square base with canted angles and moulded borders, the urn-shaped socket with detachable circular nozzle, the base engraved with a crest within the motto of the Order of the Bath, the bases filled
12 in. (30.5 cm.) high
The crest is that of Howe, for Sir William Howe, K.B., later 7th Bt. and 5th Viscount Howe (1729-1814). He was one of the principal officers employed in America during the War of Independence. He married Frances (d.1817), fourth daughter of the Rt. Hon. Thomas Conolly of Castletown, co. Kildare, sister of Anne Byng (d.1806), wife of George Byng (1735-1789). (4)
