A SET OF FOUR OLD SHEFFIELD PLATED BUTTER SHELLS

Each formed as a scallop shell, on three scroll feet, the flange engraved with the Howe crest within motto of the Order of the Bath
6in. (15.2cm.) long
The crest is that of Howe, for Sir William Howe, K.B., later 7th Bt. and 5th Viscount Howe (1729-1814). He was one of the principal officers employed in America during the War of Independence. He married Frances (d.1817), fourth daughter of the Rt. Hon. Thomas Conolly of Castletown, co. Kildare, sister of Anne Byng (d.1806), wife of George Byng (1735-1789). (4)
