BURR, Aaron (1756-1836). Autograph letter signed ("A. Burr") to Jane McLachlan, New York, 2 June 1831. 1 page, 4to, slight spotting, one closed tear at crease away from text.

BURR REFUTES A CHARGE OF WITHHOLDING FUNDS AND WARNS AGAINST "THE UNGUARDED USE OF YOUR TONGUE". Burr tells Mrs. McLachlan that "Mr. Plant informed me that you imagine that I have upward of $2,000 in my hands belonging to your Son Philip Garness. This is altogether a mistake. It is true that the master has reported that there is about $2600 due to your Son which money is now in the hands of Mr. Gardiner. You will know that I have never received one cent of it." He gives her a sharp warning: "I take the liberty Madam, to advise you not to speak in improper or offensive terms of Mr. Plant or of any other of your neighbours-remember you once lost an estate by the unguarded use of your tongue."
