Movement stamped Pons; retailed by Klaftenberger. Circa 1870
The circular silvered dial painted with Roman chapters and signed KLAFTENBERGER 157 Regent St., blued steel trefoil hour and minute hands, counterpoised blued steel sweep centre seconds hand, subsidiary silvered calendar dial above with blued steel arrowhead-hand, large twin going barrel movement with thick circular plates and four back-pinned pillars, Graham-type deadbeat escapement planted on the backplate with unusual beat adjustment, the nine-rod gridiron pendulum spring-suspended from a block at the top of the backplate, the pendulum with unusual calibrated rating nut above the bob, the strike train with countwheel planted on the backplate and a bell secured to the tripod frame with trip-linkage running to the rectangular plinth with foliate cast mouldings and centered by a silvered disc to the front painted with the days of the week and the deities indiciated by a double-ended blued steel hand; with later brass-framed dome
