Princess Maria of Prussia (1825-1889) was married to the future King Maximilian II of Bavaria in 1842. She was the mother of the crazy King Louis II and his equally crazy brother Otto. The present portrait is after the large scale oil painting of 1843 by Joseph Stieler in the Gallery of Beauties at Nymphenburg Castle, Munich.
