Super-chancery 4° (215 x 162mm). Gothic type, double column, initial spaces with guide-letters, major initials supplied in blue with red penwork, initials and paragraph marks supplied alternately in red and blue. (First two leaves a little torn, some marginal dampstaining, a little spotting, some browning.) 19th-century calf-backed boards, spine labels (a few marginal wormholes, extremities rubbed). Provenance: early marginal annotations -- Bernardinus de Chaimis, Milan (notes detailing the lending of this book to Thomas de Novara in October 1483 and to Brother Paulus de Soncino on 20 March 1500) -- F. Le Blan (inscription dated 1817).

The owner of this book, Bernardinus de Chaimis, was the brother of the saint and writer Bartholomaeus de Chaimis. He was the vicar for the Milanese province from 1482, made several trips to the Holy Land (1478-1487-1490) and was sent to Croatia as a Papal legate. He returned to Italy in 1496 and died at Varallo around 1500. HC *16132; Polain(B) 4520; BMC V, 226; Goff L-157.
