MING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY

The flattened surface of the cover crisply carved with a pair of long-tailed birds perched on branches of flowering and budding prunus growing beside camellia blossoms, the decoration extending down the shallow sides to the key-fret rim border, the sides of the box with further prunus and camellia sprays, all against a cell-pattern diaper ground, the interior and base with black lacquer (cracks and losses repaired)
