Circular, on central foot, the center repoussé and chased in high relief with Venus and Adonis flanked by putti and hounds, the border chased with scenes of putti representing the Four Elements, within a border of fruits and grains against a matted ground, the detachable foot chased with scenes of figures in contemporary dress in landscapes, with similar fruit between, marked on border and the foot engraved with signature "Paul Beuren Ao 1683"

The engraved signature on this beautifully chased salver provides the evidence for attributing the PB monogram maker's mark to Paul Beuren. Sir Charles Jackson identified this mark in 1921 as "PB in monogram [on a] Large punch bowl: Clitheroe Corporation" of 1681 (English Goldsmiths and Their Marks, 1921, p. 139, line 14).
