Signed Morimitsu, Muromachi Period (16th century)
Blade honzukuri, iorimune, toriizori, chu-kissaki, forging pattern whitish mokume, tempered edge a combination ko-midare and ko-gunome of nioi, midare-boshi, tang ubu of kurijiri, file marks kiri, two holes, the signature tachi-mei Morimitsu, nagasa 23¼in. (59cm.), simple brown wood grain efu tachi koshirae, the saya with ho-o crests in gold hiramaki-e, tsuka covered in white sharkskin with gilt tawara-byo, the menuki formed as a ho-o bird crest, the gilt metal fittings engraved with karakusa, the tsuba similarly decorated, of typical shitogi form, the hanging tapes of blue leather, 19th century, overall length 36 5/8in. (93cm.)
