the shaped circular salver with a leaf heightened gadrooned rim, split, later engraved with a coat-of-arms, supported on three scroll feet - 39.5cm. (15½in.) diameter, 44.5oz.

The arms are those of Tennyson quartering Clayton and another impaling ffytche for The Rev. George Clayton Tennyson LL.D. (1781-1832) and his wife Elizabeth (d. 1860), daughter of Rev. Stephen ffytche, Vicar of Louth, Co. Lincoln. George Clayton Tennyson was the father of five sons and three daughters. His third son Alfred, (1809-1892), was created 1st Baron Tennyson in 1884 and was likely bequeathed this salver by his father.
