By William Land of Houndsditch, first quarter 17th century
The rim cast with the inscription WILLIAM LAND MADE ME, a continuous band of scrolling foliate ornament to the body
6 5/8in. (16.8cm.) diameter; 5¼in. (13.3cm.) high;
and a bronze pestle, probably late 17th or early 18th century -- 8in. (20.3cm.) long (2)

William Land (fl.1612-37).

There is a mortar by William Land in the British Museum collection, inscribed WILLIAM LAND MADE ME 1612. He is believed to be the son of William Land, assistant to Stephen Tonni, bellfounder of Bury St. Edmonds, (working late 16th century). He was also responsible for a bell at Kirksowald, Cumberland, in 1619.
