One of my favourite vintages which I have always described as a "lean, long-distance runner". Growing conditions: early flowering, cool and fairly dry summer but a very hot, sunny, ripening September, with the harvest starting in good conditions on 6 October.

...fine colour; fragrant cedary bouquet, unblemished flavour and condition. In October 2000, drinking well at a Saintsbury Club dinner. A flavoury, beautifully textured wine, with time in hand. Most recently: opaque core; sweet old cedary bouquet, starting to show some age; very rich mouthful, dry finish.'Lovely now.'
