The factory of the M.S. Kuznetsov was founded in 1832 by T. Kuznetsov. In 1864 it was inherited by his grandson, Matvei Kuznetsov. The factory became the basis for the "Combine of M.S. Kuznetsov," founded in 1889, which included eighteen ceramic enterprises located in various regions of the Russian Empire. Towards the end of the nineteenth century the company not only dominated in the domestic Russian market, but its products were also exported abroad. In 1902 the owner received the title "Supplier to the Court of His Imperial Majesty".
