Frans Franck (1872-1932) worked in the small family firm established by his father in the second half of the 19th century. The main impetus of the firm appears to have been from Frans who, after studying at the Antwerp Academy, spent a year in Paris. He returned to his native Antwerp Circa 1894 where, together with his father and brother Charles, the firm expanded and became well known as furniture makers and interior decorators. Through the influence of a third brother, Louis, who was a Minister of the State and Governor of the National Bank, useful contacts with China were established enabling the firm to import fine quality tortoiseshell and lacquer. Furniture was always made to the highest standards and was made in very small editions of up to two or three.
The designer Frans Bruylants of Malines and the sculptor Ernest Wynants also contributed to the work of the Maison Franck.
