With carved top rail above a floral marquetry filled panel between fluted uprights, downswept arms, with solid seat and scrolling apron, on block and turned legs joined by moulded stretchers, the seatrail and leg stamped with initials PB

A similar chair was sold as part of the Mary Bellis Collection Christie's 21 May 1987 lot 123.
The chairs have very distinctive features including scroll carving to the seat-rail, fluted uprights and floral marquetry but to date little seems to be known of their origins.
