This is undoubtedly the rarest in the series of religious plates made in China at this time, and taken from engravings by the Amsterdam engraver Jan Luiken (1649-1712). The engravings were included in a Lutheran Bible printed at the beginning of the 18th century. Each plate in the series was made with several different borders. (See also lots 85, 87, 88, 90, 91).
