The street-scape of Troy, New York was most likely completed by Ellen Peck Barnard in 1834 when she was approximately nine years old. She and her mother left Troy and returned to Bristol, Connecticut that same year. The artist is the grandaughter of Abel Lewis (see lot 115) and daughter of Amy Lewis, artist of lot 116.
