THE 1993 RED BURGUNDY VINTAGE
1993 Red Burgundies have turned out far better than was initially expected. During the growing season, there had been threats of mildew damage, there was hail, and pickers had to dodge rain-storms during the harvest. This was never a blockbuster vintage, but thickly-skinned, healthy Pinot Noir grapes gave wines of character, structure, good colour and intriguingly complex, ripe tannins. They have simply needed bottle-age to shed their rough edges and put on flesh. AH
