The Royal Victorian Order was instituted in 1896 to provide an award totally outside the jurisdiction of members of government, the award being the sole perogative of the sovereign.

A Royal Victorian Order M.V.O. breast badge; a pair of cufflinks and a brooch,
the silver gilt and enamel breast badge on ribbon with pin fitting, the reverse numbered 1164, in fitted case by Collingwood Ltd., 46 Conduit St. W., the lid gilt stamped M.V.O. 4th CL., case defective; a pair of gold and black enamel oval cufflinks with chain connections, each of the four plates enamelled with A E monogram beneath a coronet; and a Louvre museum reproduction of an ancient lion brooch.
