AN EARLY DYNASTIC LAPIS LAZULI CYLINDER SEAL
EARLY 3RD MILLENNIUM B.C., DIYALA REGION
With two standing goats or antelopes with high curving horns in profile, two rosettes above, 1¼ in. (3.2 cm) high; an Ur III green stone cylinder seal depicting a presentation scene, with a seated goddess wearing horned headdress and flounced robe, being approached by a goddess leading a worshipper by the hand, each with one hand raised, a lunar crescent in the field, with three-line cuneiform inscription, circa 2100 B.C., 1 in. (2.6 cm.) high; and a Neo-Babylonian or Neo-Assyrian veined cornelian cut style cylinder seal, showing a bearded worshipper standing before a table, a winged sun disc above, a seated dog, rhomb and a star in the field, 8th-7th Century B.C., ¾ in. (2 cm.) high (3)
