AN AGATE CARVING AND A NEPHRITE CARVING
The three-coloured agate, carved and pierced as a monkey and her baby, of opaque black colour, to the translucent bat, peaches and leaf of brown colour, the reverse with translucent near colourless double gourds and three-legged toad, representing the rebus "dai dai fu lu" or "good fortune and prosperity for many generations", to a semi-translucent white and green jadeite rod, pink tourmaline plaque and coral bead surmount, early 20th century; and the nephrite, carved and pierced as leafy branches of double gourds, of semi-opaque white colour, the reverse with a bat in flight to the russet "skin" highlighting the carving, representing the rebus "gua die mian mian" or "May you have many sons and grandsons", to the pink tourmaline plaque and seed pearls surmount, both carvings attached to the silk cords, 4.57 and 5.52 cm. high
