Panthère couchée (Recumbent panther)

Dating from around 1838 and first offered in Besse's 1844 catalogue, the present model is the first in the panther series and relates closely to Jaguar couché tenant une tête de cheval (see lot 130) of 1837. After 1876, the model was edited by Barbedienne, but in far small numbers than the other panthers in the series.
