Basset debout, tête tournée à gauche (Standing basset, head turned to left)

The present lot is an infrequently seen lifetime cast of the left-facing pendant to Basset debout, tête tournée à droite, second modèle (see lot 46). First offered in Barye's 1845 catalogue, at the Atelier sale the modèle was acquired by Goupil and subsequently edited by Barbedienne until the mid-1920s.
