A George III Scottish mahogany longcase clock, late 18th century
The flat top hood with dentil mouldings, blind fret panels below, with outset spiral twist columns and conforming half columns to the side of the trunk and flanking the rectangular trunk door, the plinth with moulded skirting and raised on a later base, the 12½in. wide cut-away brass dial with foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring, its silvered centre engraved with foliate scrolls and with engraved subsidiary seconds and date rings, later blued steel hands, signed on a silvered disc in the arch Will.m Freebairn/Rutherglen, the four pillar rack striking movement with anchor escapement and strike on bell -- 80¾in. (205cm.) high
