A MAGNIFICENT FANG MALE RELIQUARY FIGURE
Eyema byeri, Northern Fang, Ntoumou
The seated figure holding a vessel in both hands against the abdomen above the cylindrical navel, the head with jutting chin and grooved mouth, one eye retaining brass tack eye, the coiffure as a flared panel falling down the nape of the neck with three bands of incised chevrons, a wood pin inserted horizontally through the top of the head, shallow groove to spine, muscular arms and legs, small oval feet, projection below the buttocks for insertion into box, dark encrusted patina with extensive thick black oil to the front, on Inagaki base
