The finely pleated slim skirt sewn from panels of pink, yellow, green, salmon, red, purple, green and pale blue silk, elaborately worked in satin stitch with climbing vines and flowers, the central front and back panels with a complex design embroidered at the lower edge with a peacock, peahen and other auspicious pairs of birds in a lush landscape of blossoming peony, magnolia, lotus and aster, the waistband of white cotton tabby

The many pleats of this festive wedding skirt neatly covered a woman's trousers and created greater volume, associated with formality. As a long coat would have been worn over the skirt, the embroidered details are limited to the lower hem, where they could be seen.
