This classic theme contrasts the balmy weather of early autumn with gentle melancholy for the cold season to come. Perhaps the most familiar depiction of this subject is Tang Yin's (1470-1523) famous handscroll, 'Secluded Fishermen on an Autumn River,' in the collection of the National Palace Museum, the 'fishermen' of course being scholars at leisure.
