The case with re-gilt foliate-tied eagle and dolphin cast handle to the repoussé top flanked by four later brass urn finials, glazed sides with re-gilt repoussé sound frets, similar frets to the front door, the 6½ in. square dial signed Nat: Seddon on the silvered chapter ring with blued steel hands, the matted centre with decorated calendar aperture, ringed winding holes and mock pendulum aperture, winged cherub spandrels, the movement with five ringed pillars, twin wire fusees, re-built verge escapement and internal rack strike on a bell above, the back plate signed Nathan Seddon St. James's London within a cartouche surrounded by profuse foliate and floral engraving

Seddon, Nathaniel. Free Brother in the Clockmakers' Company in January 1691/92 as a watchmaker. No dealings with the Company or apprentices through them until 1720 at least. Believed to have died circa 1739.
