The rectangular breakfront Broccatello di Spagna marble top with moulded edge above a pierced guilloche carved frieze centred by a ribbon-tied patera-medallion, flanked by laurel garlands, on turned tapering stop-fluted legs carved with chandelles and terminating in toupie feet, the marble replaced

This Louis XVI console table is closely related to Piedmontese furniture which was influenced by French prototypes during the second half of the 18th Century. There are related console tables in the Palazzo Reale in Turin, for instance, the one illustrated in R. Antonetto, Minusieri ed Ebanisti del Piemonte, Turin, 1985, p.372, fig.549. A virtually identical table was sold at Sotheby's, London, 13 June 1997, lot 14 (£ 20,700)
