The vigorous detailing of these candlesticks reflects the romantic French gothic fashion popularised by Jacob Petit's, Collection de dessins d'Ornement, issued in Paris in the late 1820s. A similar pair of candlesticks are exhibited in the Treasury at Burg Hohenzollern.
