A very similar pair of Egyptian porphyry vases with domed lids are in the Palazzo Pitti and are believed to have been made in Florence circa 1800 - 1810 (M. Chiarini and S. Padovani, Gli Appartamenti Reali de Palazzo Pitti, Florence, 1993, p. 297, cat. XIII.18).
