John Ednie, an architect by training like Mackintosh, designed few pieces of furniture although he was retained by Wylie & Lochhead, Glasgow, and was responsible for some of their more solid pieces. This settle, perhaps the most elegant of his designs, was made for a dining room he designed at Wylie & Lochhead's pavilion at the Glasgow International Exhibition of 1901, where it was much admired.
