A later re-drawn version of this subject by Pellion, removing Rose de Freycinet from the scene, is in the Rex Nan Kivell Collection, National Library of Australia.

Pellion depicts the Uranie's encampment at Shark Bay with the fresh water distillery set up in the centre (the Uranie's still had caught fire on the voyage from Bourbon leaving them with short supply) and Rose de Freycinet seated with her mulatto companion by her tent on the right (the first representation of a white woman in Western Australia). She was edited out of the published plate in the Atlas Historique (see the proof and plate illustrated overleaf).

'On 18 September, I went ashore with Louis and we spent several days under a tent. That stay on land was not a pleasant one for me, the country being entirely devoid of trees and vegetation. One could only go for a walk on burning sand. When the heat died down a little, I would collect shells, of which I have an impressive collection. I spent the rest of the day in the tent reading or working.' (M.S.Riviére (ed.), A Woman of Courage, The Journal of Rose de Freycinet on her Voyage around the World 1817-1820, Canberra, 1996, p.52.)
