Kamakura period helmets, particularly those retaining so much of their original mounting, are rare. When first used the bowl would have been fitted with a flush lining, with the chin-cord secured to loops passing through the four holes at the sides, but when it was remounted for use at a later date a conventional lining was added and the chin cord attached to the new koshimaki.
