Half title, engraved frontispiece, portrait of the author and 161 plates (of 162, lacks plate 124), numerous engraved head-pieces, initials and decorations. (Most plates very erratically positioned and most slightly discoloured). Later 18th-century russia gilt (lower cover detached).

First English edition. Blackmer 1211 (collation agreeing with this copy): 'This important work was the earliest attempt at an elaborate description of Egypt, and its plates are the most significant previous to those by Denon'; Brunet IV, 101.
