A VERY RARE SMALL IMITATION BRONZE VASE
GILT QIANLONG SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1736-1795)

The baluster vase covered in a cafe-au-lait glaze splashed unevenly in gold to imitate bronze, with stylised plantain leaves and formal borders around the neck, shoulder, base and foot, the body moulded with four oval panels in relief decorated to simulate dreamstone (broken and restuck)

In the late Qianlong period, a variety of porcelain wares were produced simulating other materials, most of which appear to be unique examples. A number of such objects are in the Beijing Palace Museum and illustrated in the Kangxi Yongzheng Qianlong, Forbidden City Press, 1989, pls. 92-96, 101-106.
