KANGXI SIX-CHARACTER MARK AND OF THE PERIOD (1662-1722)

Strongly potted, the jar is covered on the exterior with a rich egg-yolk-yellow glaze, the interior and base with a transparent glaze (minor glaze flakes)

An identical Kangxi-marked yellow-glazed jar (with a cover) is in the Percival David Foundation, illustrated by J. Ayers and M. Sato, Ceramic Art of the World, vol. 15, Ch'ing Dynasty, Japan, 1983, pl. 257; a jar also with its cover, from the National Palace Museum, Taibei, was included in A Special Exhibition of Qing Monochrome-glazed Porcelains, Taibei, 1981, and illustrated in the Catalogue, no. 21; and another was sold in our New York Rooms, 1 December 1994, lot 435. An unmarked example is illustrated by J. Ayers, The Baur Collection, vol. 3, pl. A456.
