The sides flaring widely from the flat base flat-cast with two bands of interlaced dragon scroll repeated on the canted shoulder which is applied with a pair of small taotie-mask handles suspending loose rings, all below an everted rim, with silver-grey patina

This vessel is a later form of the pan, and appears to be relatively rare. A comparable example with ridged loop handles and without loose rings, is published in the Yenching Journal of Chinese Studies, The Bronzes of Shang and Chou, Monograph Series no. 17, vol. II, Jung Keng, Harvard-Yenching Institute, Yenching University, Beijing, China, 1941, p. 464, pl. 882.

The concentric bands of bold, low-relief dragon scroll on this pan can be related to the decoration on a bronze lei of the same period, illustrated by C. Deydier, Les Bronzes Chinois, Paris, 1980, p. 54, no. 35.
