D.S.M. London Gazette 11.12.1918 'For services in Grand Fleet Destroyers between the 1 January and 30 June 1918'.
Chief Engine Room Artificer 2nd Class Richard Taylor, D.S.M., was born in Glasgow in April 1880 and entered the Royal Navy as an Acting Engine Room Artificer 4th Class in May 1901. The advent of hostilities in August 1914 found him borne on the books of Vivid but in May 1916 he joined the Ship's Company of the Destroyer Paladin, an appointment that would lead to him being awarded the D.S.M. and Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 8.3.1918 refers). He was finally pensioned ashore in May 1923.
