Battery Quarter-Master Sergeant John Breakspear, a Birmingham man, first entered the French Theatre of War in mid-October 1914 as a Corporal in the Meerut D.A. Column, R.F.A. but was awarded the M.S.M. for services with 35th Battery, R.F.A. on the North West Frontier, India (London Gazette 28.10.1920 refers).
