Lot Essay

Diaghilev appears to have left these canes behind on a visit to Manchester with the Ballet Russe between 1920 and 1935. The vendor purchased the canes from a car hire company whose efforts to return them to a customer from the Midland Hotel [presumably Diaghilev] who had left them behind had proved fruitless.
