Foreword by Mike and Sue Richardson To Mr J. W. Hemley, all Dinky Toy collectors owe a great debt. Dr. Cecil Gibson had access to his collection when he was writing 'History of British Dinky Toys 1934 to 1964', enabling the pre-war section to be so accurate. It is to both of them that we ourselves are indebted, for that book facilitated our compilation of 'Dinky Toys and Modelled Miniatures', the story of Dinky Toys from their inception to the closure of the Binns Road factory in 1979. It is a happy coincidence that this collection should become available on the 50th Anniversary of Dinky Toys. It is a wonderful sight, with so many perfect models in exquisite boxes spanning more than 40 years. If that is not enough, the collection of post-war French Dinky Toys must be beyond compare in England. Contents Almost every individual model in The Hemley Collection is in the original box or case, where appropriate; boxes and cases are only mentioned in this list to differentiate more clearly between the various sections. Introduction The Hemley Collection represented a large proportion of the models photographed for the pioneering 'History of British Dinky Toys 1934 to 1964' by Dr Cecil Gibson, published in 1966; examples can be found on Pages 13 to 17, 19, 23 to 30, 34, 35 and 43. Models from the Collection also appear in 'Model Commercial Vehicles', again by Dr. Cecil Gibson, published in 1971, colour illustrated on Page 22, with text on Page 23. Most of the post-war section of the collection was purchased from the original retailers and has remained in careful storage ever since. Pre-war 22 and 23 Series Vehicles See Colour Plate I
