'Nine Thousand Series' Factory Sample Sets
The following sets are contained in original red Britains boxes, with an end label bearing the 'Nine Thousand Series' number which was only used on the cellophane-fronted boxes issued 1962-1966. The red boxes have no illustrated lid label, it could be assumed that these sets were not issued to retail outlets but made up as factory samples.
In some cases the figures have paper labels indicating set numbers applied to the underside; the boxes probably date from 1962, and are F, with some fading and paint-marking, as if used to clean brushes or test paint colour.
