THEO FOSSEL ESQ.
1936 - 1993
Born in 1936 in Austria he came to England when he was ten. His first career was as a forester in Scandinavia, gaining his great knowledge of wood. After many changes in career he eventually became a supplier of sporting and shooting accessories which included walking sticks and materials. He sold these up and down the country at Game and Country Fairs and became known internationally.
In his last 10 years he gained notoriety for making walking sticks and indeed supplied members of the Royal Family. In 1985 he wrote "Walking and Working Sticks" which was published in 1986 and made a video on the practical side of the subject entitled "Stickmaking and Carving".
In 1983, Theo founded, and later became President of "The British Guild of Stickmakers" (BSG) and latterly founded an international branch. As a result the periodical "The Stickmaker" started in November 1984.
While achieving all the above he also found time to build an extensive personal collection of varying antique and modern walking sticks.
